Is your cable bill costing you in upwards of $200+ a month? If yes, then you need to start looking for alternatives to cut down your cost!
Think about it – cable bills can put a large dent in your future savings plan. A $200 cable bill a month can run you $2,400 annualized!
Here are my tips to start saving on your cable bill.
Tip #1: Call the Company!
I know – it’s brutal to go through 10 menus while talking to a robot for 5-10 minutes before you actually get to speak with an actual person, but this is an effective way to start saving. If you contact the company and threaten to leave, most of the time the employee can find you a way to save on your bill or they’ll set you up with a new promotion they’re running.
Cable companies are struggling to keep customers now that there are so many alternatives out there. Give them a call – you may be surprised how much you’re overpaying! Keep in mind that even if you cut your cable, you will still need an internet connection if you decide to choose one of the alternatives below.
Tip #2 – Get an antenna!
Depending on where you live, you can get over 50+ TV stations for FREE! I recommend doing your own research, but the Blimark HDTV indoor Antenna works great. Stations such as NBC, ABC, FOX, and CBS are commonly picked up by the antenna. If you mostly watch cable, this will do the job.
Tip #3 – Pick a Service
I recommend going with Sling TV. Sling TV gives the customer the availability to go out and choose the channels that they want to watch. Currently, on the Sling TV website, you can get 30+ channel for $20 a month. They offer other packages as well that may interest you depending on what channels you watch.
Tip #4 – Get a Box
You will need a box to stream the Sling TV at home. What kind of box will work with the Sling TV? Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Chromecast, Xbox One, etc. If I had to recommend one device to stream your content on it, I’d pick Roku.
Tip #5 – Use Amazon Prime Benefits
Do you do most of your shopping on Amazon? Did you know you your Amazon account comes with a free streaming service? Amazon has loads of content that is included with your Amazon Prime. This content can also be streamed on your Roku device.
Tip #6 – Get Netflix!
Netflix has fantastic shows and movies. The prices start at $7.99 (for 1 device and no High Definition) a month and range up to $11.99 (4 devices at the same time/HD/Ultra HD available). You can watch anywhere on your phone, tablet or television. The great thing about Netflix is that you can cancel anytime without any contracts!
No matter what you pick, make sure to do your own additional research before committing to any streaming service. Make sure the service fits your needs! Good luck!
